306pp. Brown cloth boards with gilt titles (very light shelfwear). Remains of bookplate on front paste down. Three previous owner's names, one on title page. Strip tan mark on front free endpaper. In a lightly chipped and rubbed dust jacket, with nick on leading edge. A novel which created a sensation when first published in 1914 for its lyrical, radical exposure of the injustices and careless lifestyle of Irish navvies. One of the best novels set in Scotland, often featuring on the 'best of Scottish books' lists.
