First Edition. 100pp Green cloth-covered boards; gilt titles on spine. 12mo. Sun-faded spine and top edge, lightly rubbed spine ends, bottom front corner bumped; rear board has some minor worm damage at fore edge. Text block edges tanning. Annotation on front free endpaper. Endpapers just starting to fox. Internally neat, clean, bright and tight. Dust jacket is tanned and as shelf wear, chipping, mirrors book damage, not price clipped. Captain Liddell Hart has concentrated his learning in the history of modern warfare and his reflections upon its tendencies. Total war, in the authors words, is 'the combination of an unlimited aim with an unlimited method'. He hopes for a 'revival of reason, sufficient to produce self-control in war, if not the abolition of war'.
