Part of the beautiful 'Severn Edition' of Francis Brett Young's works, first issued in 1935 (this volume is from that first issue in 1935). x, 694pp. Includes preface. Maps of the Shrewsbury/Hereford/Worcester part of the West Midlands, where the novel is set, on endpapers. Two colour printed title page. Blue cloth boards with blind embossed motif on front and gilt titles to spine (slightly worn at edges, rounded at spine ends). Internally neat, clean, bright and tight barring very occasional mild foxing. Francis Brett Young was an English novelist whose works display a strong sense of time and place. His Mercian novels, of which this is one, in particular reveal a loosely fictionalised West Midlands.
