264pp plus extensive appendices and central section of black and white illustrations. Black cloth covered boards (one corner lightly bumped) with titles to spine. Internally neat, clean, bright and tight. In its original dust jacket (very slightly bumped at edges). A memoir which takes the lid off one the great untold stories of the second world war. Allied prisoners of war on Taiwan faced the privations inflicted on the comrades elsewhere, but Taiwan held an additional terror, the hell mine of Kinkaseki. Here prisoners, including the author, slaved underground in conditions of extreme danger and subject to regular floggings for those who could not mine their quota of copper ore.
