343pp. A few line drawings in text, eight pages of half-tone illustrations between pages 208-209. Green cloth boards (sharp, bright, strong, with just a little rounding at corners and spine ends) with gilt titles and motif. Internally neat, clean, bright and tight, barring very occasional mild foxing on prelims and text block edges only). In its original dust jacket, designed by Michael Harvey (a little rubbed at corners, lightly chipped at spine ends and short closed tear on verso). Jacket fitted with archival-quality mylar wrapper to protect & prolong its life. It is not adhered to the book or to the jacket. John Master's personal story, intimate and direct. It is only incidentally a war book as the principle theme is personal growth, but nevertheless a large part of it is concerned with Masters' experiences of the second world war, a professional officer concerned with both the theory of war and its bloody actuality.
