Frist edition, first printing.  128pp, plus numerous colour and monochrome plate illustrations, further line drawings in text.  In blue cloth-covered boards with gilt lettering and decorations.  8vo.  Cloth just a little rounded at corners and spine tips else neat, clean, bright and tight throughout.  In its original dust wrapper, with some mild shelf wear and short closed tear on rear panel.  Dust wrapper now protected in a Brodard-style sleeve fitted without using tape or adhesives. Compton Mackenzie recounts the dramatic and turbulent story of the development of Coalport China, from its origins on the banks of the River Severn in the 1750s to its later home in Stoke on Trent.  The history has more than its share of disaster and tradegy but there is also success resulting from intense labour and risk-taking.
