First edition, first impression.Β  No. 189 of an edition limited to 1175 copies. xxiv, 25-88pp, with monochrome plate frontispiece and numerous further monochrome plate illustrations interleaved in textΒ  Yellow cloth-covered boards with gilt lettering on black relief front and spine.Β  8vo.Β  Boards are heavily soiled, rubbed and rounded at corners and spine ends, slightly bowed.Β  Some spotting on endpapers, and faintly and occasionally on first and las few true leaves else internally neat, clean and tight. Carlotta Grisi (1819-1899) was an Italian ballerina who performed all over the world, creating a sensation in the role of Giselle in a production which premiered in Paris in 1840. She was prima ballerina at the St Petersburg Imperial Theatre from 1850 to 1853.
