First edition, first impression.ย  xvi, 340pp, with occasional black and white illustrations, tables, maps, etc.ย  Black cloth-covered boards with gilt lettering on the spine. 8vo.ย  Cloth a little pushed at spine ends and corners.ย  Internally neat, clean, bright and tight. In its original dust wrapper, chapped with some loss along upper edge, bumped and nicked on lower edge, creased on rear inner flap, shelf worn and faded. A study of settlement and land use across the Weald of Kent from the invasion of the Jutes to the Peasants' Revolt in the late 14th century. and the struggles between the manorial lords and ordinary folk over forest rights.
