First edition, fourth printing.  xii, 254pp.  Quarter bound in brown cloth other brick red cloth-covered boards with gilt lettering and decorations from and spine.  Pale blue endpapers.  8vo.  Volume is neat, clean, bright and tight throughout.  In its original dust wrapper, very slightly bumped at edges. A handsome volume which amounts to a tutorial, and handbook, on achieving eloquence and effectiveness in writing and speaking by drawing on the masters of the form - Lincoln and Churchill, Dickens and Melville, Edmund Burke and Thomas Paine and more than a hundred others.  As such it forms a much a history of fine English usage as a handbook to mastering the language of rhetoric.
