First edition, first impression.Β 192pp, with black and white plate illustrations.Β Grey cloth-covered boards, gilt lettering to spine.Β 8vo.Β Cloth a little pushed in at spine ends.Β Previous owner's name flamboyantly inked on front paste down (George Gush, 1975).Β The inscription has bled slightly onto the front free endpaper, else internally neat, clean, bright and tight.Β In its original dust wrapper, shelf worn and rubbed and bumped at edges, couple of short nicks on lower rear edge, spine slightly sunned.
This copy from the library of the late George R P Gush.Β GushΒ was head of history at West Kent College but is perhaps better remembered as a key contributor to the development of early wargaming, and as an active wargamer especially in Renaissance wargames.Β His Renaissance Armies (1975) has become a classic work on the topic.Β He founded the Tunbridge Wells Wargames Society in the late 1960s, remaining its chairman until 2007.Β A regular contributor to various wargaming and modelling magazines, he authored with Andrew FinchΒ A Guide to Wargaming (1980) and the well-regarded Wargames Rules for Fifteenth to Seventeenth Centuries.
