First edition, first printing. 112pp. Black cloth-covered boards with gilt lettering to spine. 12mo. Cloth is a little worn and dull, gently rounded at spine ends. Hint of spotting on endpapers, slightly opened gutter ahead of title page, else internally neat, clean and bright.
A slim volume exploring various aspects of the history of Christmas, the origins of the festival, rites, songs etc, tracing the origins of Christmas to some 2000 years before the birth of Christ, and questioning how it is that over the centuries a bishop-saint of Asia Minor and a pagan god of the Germans emerged into Santa Claus.
