Complete in two volumes. 210pp; 276pp, with coloured frontispieces, further colour plates interleaved in text, maps etc.ย Fully bound in cushioned leatherette with gilt and red decorations and gilt lettering.ย All edges gilt.ย Marbled endpapers.ย Yellow silk ribbon markers bound in.ย 8vos.ย Both volumes are neat, clean, bright and tight throughout barring a neat and elegant bookplate on the front paste down of volume one.
A very good facsimile reproduction of the 1894 edition of Burton's classic on travel in East Africa, nicely bound (albeit leatherette rather than leather).ย A work which added greatly to Western knowledge of Somalia, it is also a classic adventure story.ย Original sheet from the publishers, explaining the significance of the work, loosely laid in.
