viii, 476pp, with engraved titles pages and occasional engraved illustrations interleaved in text.ย  Half bound in green leather over green pebbled cloth, red leather title label on a six panelled spine with gilt decorations.ย  All edges marbled.ย  Marbled endpapers.ย  8vo.ย  Leather is scuffed and dry, rubbed around corners and spine ends and joints, spine a little sunned, cloth a little shelf worn with a few minor marks.ย  Text block edges dust dulled and faded.ย  Front and rear hinges cracked but volume remains tight and square.ย  Hint of toning to pages in places else internally neat. clean, bright and tight. A pleasing, presentable but flawed early edition of this work on the history of Scotland by eminent novelist Sir Walter Scott,ย  Includes first, second and third series of Scott's essays on the topic.
