First edition. 116pp, illustrated throughout in black and white. Red cloth-covered boards with gilt titles on spine and front. Rubbed spine ends. Bumped bottom corners. Dust jacket has a small stain on the front and a 1.5cm closed tear across top front corner. Slight de-lamination in places. Previous owner's name 'blacked out' on front free end paper. Internally neat, clean, bright and tight. 8vo. Chapters on design, techniques, patterns, and materials and threads etc, for modern blackwork embroidery, preceded by a fascinating history survey of the art and in particular its popularity, use and development in Tudor times.
