An unusual style of binding for a jacketless hardback. A hard to find title. Sarah Gainham was the pen name of Rachel Ames (nee Stainer), best remembered for her trilogy of novels about life in Vienna under Nazi rule which began with Night Falls on the City. But earlier in her writing career, she produced absorbing and compelling spy thriller. The Silent Hostage was her fifth novel
