First edition, first impression.  112pp, with black and white plate illustrations and line drawings in text.  Reddish-brown cloth-covered boards with pictorial onlay on upper panel, cream lettering front and spine.  8vo.  This is a very tatty,  just abou disbound copy, suitable for reference or rebinding only.  The front panel is detached, backstrip absent.  Covers worn, rubbed and flaking.  Light spotting and marks to pages, which are  toned in margins,.  Many of  the pages and plates are loose and several  are creased and/or damaged at edges with some small loss in places (loss not affecting text or images).  It lacks one leaf of plate illustrations (that which should appear between pages 62 and 63. but is otherwise complete.  For rebinding/restoration only.  No returns on this one. A scarce volume, Little Wars sets out the rules for a game with toy soldiers, devised and written by the novelist H G Wells, with some inspiration from this friend and fellow novelist Jerome K Jerome.   Setting out a fairly simple game, involving a toy 4.7 inch gun shooting wooden dowels at the enemy soldiers, the book also hints at some commentary on war and reveals Wells' stance as a pacifist.  Includes illustrations and photographs of the game being played.
