First edition, first impression.ย  ย 280pp, with illustrated frontispiece and further line drawings in text.ย  Green cloth-covered boards with gilt lettering to spine.ย  12mo.ย  Cloth gently rubbed at corners and spine ends.ย  Some spotting on text block edges.ย  Internally neat, clean, bright and tight.ย  Remains of original marketing banner loosely laid in.ย  In its original worn dust wrapper, chipped and bumped along lower edge, rubbed along upper edge and a little sunned over the spine, price clipped. The first part of Laurie Lee's account of his childhood in Slad, Gloucestershire during and after the First World War, published in the US under the title Edge of Day: Boyhood in the West of England.ย  A records of a traditional way of life in an English village in an era before the coming of the motor car and the sweeping developments that came after the war.ย  Many years after its publication the identity of 'Rosie' was revealed as Lee's distant cousin, Rosalind Buckland.
