A treatise on the philosophy of Marxist-Leninism written by five members of the Moscow State University Philosophy Department.  Progress Publishers was a Moscow-based Soviet, and later Russian, publisher founded in 1931. It gained greater prominence when it took on the USSR's state publishing functions in 1963, remaining the leading publisher of Soviet materials until the early 1980s when it handed that mantle to Raduga and MIR Publishers.
