First edition, first impression.  142pp, black and white illustrations throughout (including a  charming frontispiece showing the author with one of the lions at the zoon in 1951)..  Laminated, illustrated stiff card covers.  8vo.  A little gentle edge wear to card covers else neat, clean, bright and tight throughout.  Two newspaper clippings relating to the zoo loosely laid in. Maidstone Zoo at Cobtree Park was the creation of Hugh Gerrard Tyrwhitt-Drake - a remarkable man, zoologist, writer, artist, businessman.  His zoo was at one time the largest private collection of animals in Britain and as an attraction it drew in thousands of visitors, open to the public from 1934 to 1959.
