First edition, first impression.  72pp, with black and white illustrations in text.  Glazed pictorial boards.  8vo.  Some light shelf wear to glazed boards else volume is neat, clean, bright and tight. Sir Arthur Conan Doyle wrote over 60 detective fiction stories featuring Sherlock Holmes: no fewer than six of these were set in Kent, in and around the country houses that Sir Arthur himself visited during his rich and varied life.  In the Victorian era, rural murders were no less horrific, and worthy of sensationalisation, than those which took place on grimy streets in growing urban areas.  And it was the trains which brought the criminals, and sometimes the victims too, into the home counties and their rural idylls.
