Internally tight, crisp and clean barring occasional spotting. Classic account of the trial in Edinburgh of Madeleine Smith in 1857 for the murder, by arsenic, of her lover, Pierre Emile L'Angelier, which resulted in a verdict of not proven. (First published 1905, edited by A. Duncan Smith, in the Notable Scottish Trials series, first Notable British Trials edition in 1927.)
