252pp. Illustrated with numerous woodcuts. Bound in black buckram with red and gilt decoration and gilt lettering. Introduced by Russell Banks. Deep red endpapers. The Scarlet Letter was first published in the USA by Ticknor, Reed and Fields in 1850. This edition follows the text of the second edition which was published later in the same year. Very gentle shelfwear to slipcase, else fine. Handsome volume throughout.
