First edition, first printing. 184pp. In blue publisher's cloth-covered boards with gilt titles on spine, top edge sprayed blue (boards a little bumped on corners and spine tips, cloth perhaps a little dulled). There is some scattered, faint foxing in the text block edges and the first and last few leaves, else internally neat, clean and bright. Squarely and firmly bound. In its original dust jacket (slightly rubbed and chipped on corners and spine ends, small nick on reverse, with some mild but visible shelf wear, not price clipped). Dust jacket now protected in an archival quality Mylar wrapper, fitted without the use of tape or adhesives. The author's penultimate full-length novel, one which Waugh called his 'mad book', it is largely autobiographical, accounting for a period of Waugh's life in which he experienced a period of hallucinations thought to be caused by bromide intoxication.
