First US edition, first printing. Prelims plus 292pp. Deckled fore edge. Quarter bound in black cloth over black card boards, author's initials in silver on front, silver lettering to spine (boards are strong, square, clean and fresh, just a tad rubbed on upper edge on reverse). Lengthy gift inscription on front free endpaper, else internally neat, clean, bright and tight. In its original bright and crisp dust jacket, not price clipped, minor remains on price label on front and minor bleed from bar code on reverse. The dust jacket protected in an archival-quality mylar wrapper, fitted without the use of tape or adhesives. Leonard Cyril Deighton is a British author whose works include cookery books, history and military history, but he is best known for his spy novels, including the series featuring the unnamed Harry Palmer.
