Undated [1918]. xv, 196pp, black and white photographic plate frontispiece. Green cloth-covered boards; red borders on front, red titles on front and spine. 8vo. Boards very lightly soiled and worn. Spine sun-faded, ends heavily rubbed, heel lightly bumped, small split in cloth at front joint. Corners heavily rubbed and rounded, small bump on bottom edge of front board. Fore and bottom text block edge untrimmed, top edge dusty, all edges tanning. Previous owner's name in pen on front free endpaper, endpapers lightly tanned. Occasional light foxing on prelims. Internally neat, clean and tight. Letters found in one of the dug-outs of an abandoned gun position from an unknown young English officer on leave in Paris. 'An Explanation' by John Lane.
