First edition, first printing. 96pp, with black and white illustrations by Will Crawford. Bound in beige cloth-covered boards with brown titles on spine. 12mo. Boards slightly rubbed and rounded at corners and spine tips, a little discoloured, especially on edges and around spine. Upper text block edge dusty, all edges darkened. Some toning on endpapers and, mildly, in margins of first and last few leaves. In its original worn and rubbed dust jacket, a few short, closed tears from edges, toned and sunned over spine. Mackinlay Kantor (born Benjamin McKinlay Kantor), 1904-1977, was an American journalist, screenwriter and novelist, writing more than thirty novels, several set during the American Civil War. He was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction for his 1955 novel, Andersonville.
