First edition, first printing. 144pp. In brown cloth-covered boards with gilt titles on spine. 8vo. A little rounding at spine ends, and some mild spotting on text block edges, else fresh and clean throughout. In its original dust jacket, rubbed at edges with small nick on upper edge. Tegner's contribution to our native literature was considerable and his stature as a naturalist and author grew within this own lifetime. In Bucks of the Saughs his subject is the graceful roedeer and his setting the wild and beautiful land south of the Cheviot Hills. Orphaned at birth, Buck is hand-reared by farmer's daughters but returns to the wild to find a family of roedeer.
