The Sewage Problem: A Letter to The Engineer

10pp stapled booklet in light card covers. 8vo. Covers a little worn at edges, with some soiling. The words 'with the author's compts' are written across the top of the front cover. Internally neat, clean, bright and tight barring some very gentle wear at page edges. This is a reprint of a letter, from Messrs Bailey-Denton, Son & Lawford, a engineering firm based in Westminster London, to the trade magazine, The Engineer. The letter appeared in the Engineer in October 1899. The letter discussed the water and sewage problem facing the country, and the fact that they have been made more acute by the delay in an expected report from the Royal Commission on Sewage Disposal. They use specific examples - Forfar, Dewsbury, Abingdon, Leek and Crewkerne, to put forward their own response and solutions. A wonderful insight into urban planning, local authority works and construction, and engineering at the turn of the 20th century. Very hard to find.
