1st thus. xlviii, 364pp. Profusely illustrated with monochrome plate photographs, many of which are full page. Bound in mid-blue cloth with gilt lettering to front and spine. Boards show very mild shelfwear & gentle rubbing at extreme corners. Light spotting internally, especially affecting rear endpapers & hint of tanning on some page edges otherwise neat, clean and tight. As originally divided in earlier editions, Period I of English Homes (based on Tipping's 25 years of visiting English country homes on behalf of Country Life) stopped at 1485, and Period II was made to cover the succeeding early Tudor age from the accession of Henry VII to the reign of Elizabeth I. That break was always an artificial one and in this edition has been ignored, with the two periods being run together.
