Stigland, renown as one of the great African hunters in the first part of the 20th century; this volume was written while he served as British Representative in the Lado Enclave in 1910. The hunting tales are told modestly, but passionately, while his reflections on the Africa he found - its landscape, people and culture - are profound albeit very much of their time.
