In red cloth-covered boards with extensive gilt decorations on front panel, gilt lettering on spine, blind embossed decorations on rear panel. Bevelled edges. All edges gilt. Extra illustrated title page (reproducing that which appeared in the First edition of 1863). 8vo. Boards heavily worn, rubbed through cloth and rounded on corners and spine ends. Some marks. Front hinge cracked and open. Front free endpaper has flat creasing and some discolouration, with a faded ink doodle. Previous owner's inscription on front pastedown, dated 1874. Gutter cracked between pages 26 & 27. Rear endpapers a little creased and discoloured. Not the easiest title to find in one of its original editions.
