Second edition, revised.ย  xx, 348pp, 20pp of advertisements bound in at rear.ย  Copiously illustrated with black and white drawings in text, including a double page spread showing the location in London of Police and Fire Stations and their communications links.ย  In red cloth-covered boards, blind stamped and tooled front and rear, gilt titles on spine.ย  8vo.ย  Boards are little rubbed at edges, some fading especially over spine, gently rounded at corners and spine ends.ย  Slightly foxed on text block edges.ย  Two previous owner's names on front free endpaper.ย  A little cracking of paper over front hinge else internally neat, clean, bright and tight.ย  A scarce and early text on the history of fire-fighting. This second edition includes much additional material, Shaw having brought it completely up to date, focussing on changes and developments in the London Metropolitan Fire Brigade.ย  The advertisements at the rear, many of which are illustrated feature Fire Engines made by the likes of Shand, Mason & Co and Merryweather and Sons, as well as fire escapes, pumping machinery, hose-pipes and so on.
