xxiv, 25-88pp, some black and white photographic plates. Yellow cloth-covered boards; gilt titles on black printed label on front and spine. 8vo. Sun-faded, rubbed corners and spine ends. Text block edges tanning. Endpapers foxing and tanning; bookplate on front free endpaper, pages starting to age (plates unaffected). Otherwise internally neat, clean and tight. Dust jacket spine sun-faded, has soiling, shelf wear, chipping to edges, mirrors book damage, not price clipped.
Carlotta Grisi (1819-1899) was an Italian ballerina who performed all over the world, creating a sensation in the role of Giselle in a production which premiered in Paris in 1840. She was prima ballerina at the St Petersburg Imperial Theatre from 1850 to 1853.
