First edition.  180pp, copiously illustrated.  in red cloth-covered boards with gilt motif and titles. Colour illustrated endpapers.  Small folio.  Spotted along top text block edge.  Minor blemish in top right corner of front free endpaper, hint of toning on extreme page edges, else neat, clean, bright and tight throughout.  In its original dust wrapper, a little bumped on extreme edge. An exploration and celebration of the Russian composer and conductor's musical life, presenting facsimilies of some of his completed manuscripts, sketches and notational jottings, with a number of sections devoted to specific works such as Orpheus, Rake's Progress and Shakespeare Songs.
