Green cloth boards with gilt vignette and lettering, top edge gilded, other text block edges rough cut (boards gently rubbed at edges, rounded at corners and slightly sunned spine). Internally neat, clean, bright and tight barring small library stamp on copyright page. An extensive survey of book illustrators working in the 1860s, with sections on Sir John Tenniel, Birket Foster, Rosetti, Holman Hunt, Whistler, Charles Keene, J W North, George du Maurier, J D Watson, William Small, Edward Dalziel, and more.
