A nautical novel from the author of Realities of Sea Life.  Coate service in the Merchant Marines and also wrote 'Some Phases of Poor Life', Eastward Ho [1895] where his sympathetic discription of the very poor in South London focussed on the plight of those who worked hard but earned too little to live and criticism of organised charities and the humilation of poor relief.
