iv, 724 [4] pages, numerous full page engraved illustrations, 12 fold out songs with lyrics and music. Quarter bound in calfskin leather over card covered boards, five raised bands to spine, (heavily worn all round, cracked and chipped away at edges, corner leather eroded and spine leather dry and cracked at joints and spine tips, softened and scuffed at corners). Internally, previous owner's name on front endpaper, in copperplate hand (reads Ann Skevington, No. 4, Yeaverly), pages toned, some with small chips and creases at edges, some spotting, some fold outs have been mis-folded upon return, a few strained gutters, only a fragment of the rear free endpaper remains. Generally clean and binding holding firm. Volume XXV of the Lady's Magazine, comprising all 12 monthly issues published in 1794. Each issue contains a selection of articles regarding history and world events, customs and opinions, political reflections, foreign news, home news, serialised novels and tales, letters and correspondence and poetical essays. Each issue contains at least one song with music and lyrics, a number of them attributing Handel as the composer. Other articles which feature in this bound volume include 'Life of Dr Franklin'; 'On Poetry and Painting'; 'Foreign News'; 'The Genius and Character of the Japanese'; 'Observations on Dryden'; 'An Excursion to the Peak of Tenerife'; 'Some Account of the Kingdom of Pegu'; 'Desultory Remarks on Female Chastity'; 'Medical Question on Eating'; 'Description of the City of Durham'; 'A Succinct Account of the Trial of Thomas Hardy for High Treason'; 'Treatment of Dissolute Females' etc. Does not have the fashion plates present in some editions.
