302pp, with colour plate frontispiece. Black cloth-covered boards with gilt lettering front and spine. Title page printed in red and black. 8vo. Cloth a little worn, faded around edges and spine, gently rubbed at corners and spine ends. Ex libris stamps on front & rear paste downs and title page. Some mild page toning, mostly affecting first and last few leaves.
An assembly of the texts of the hymns of the breviary and the Roman Catholic missal, with translations and commentary on the origins of the hymns and their liturgical use. Translations include both poetical and literal intepretations.
