The memories and experiences of Thomas Chambers, an 18-year-old recruit to the Durham Light Infantry at the turn of the century. While officers involved in the Boer War often kept diaries, it was unusual for an ordinary private to do so. Here his Boer War diaries have been sensitively edited by his grandson.
