Pulp Macabre: The Art and of Lee Brown Coye's Final and Darkest Era

First edition, first printing.  194pp, copiously illustrated in colour and black and white.  Pictorial paper-covered boards, red and yellow titles on front and spine.  Black endpapers. 4to.  Boards very slightly rubbed on corners.  Internally neat, clean, bright and tight. A very nice copy.  Coye (1907-1981) was an American artist known for this black and white illustrations, the recurring use of the motif of wooden sticks, often in lattice-like patterns and for pulp magazine and horror fiction but he is perhaps best remembered as an illustrator of the macabre, a practice which grew out of his commissions to illustrate horror fiction.  Focussing on collecting and reprinting Coye's pulp illustrations, this volume also contains essays on his work and biographical sketches, putting the artist and his in context.
