342pp with black and white illustrations in text, tissue-guarded plate frontispiece.ย  Green cloth-covered boards with gilt lettering. Top edge gilt.ย  Title page printed in red and black with central vignette. 8vo.ย  Cloth is a little tired, rubbed and rounded at corners and tips of a sunned spine, a few mild marks.ย  Shadowing and faint spotting on endpapers, tissue guard toned with offset toning in margins of frontispiece, hint of toning in margins throughout. A very pleasing vintage volume, elegantly produced albeit well used, providing a compelling guide to bookbinding practices up to the end of the 19th century.
