First edition, first impression.  390pp.  Blue cloth-covered boards with gilt titles on the spine.  8vo.  Cloth a little pushed at corners and spine tips.  Mild spotting to text block edges and endpapers, else internally neat, clean, bright and tight.  In its original dust wrapper (designed by John Ward, RA), a little rubbed at edges, corners and spine ends, lightly shelf worn - visible on verso  Dust jacket now protected in a removable clear film sleeve. The novel sequence,  The Human Predicament, of which this volume is the second and final part, is perhaps Hughes best, and sadly now overlooked, work.  It is a chilling novelisation of the rise of Nazi Germany in the years between the two world wars.
