Marianne North (1830-1890) was a biologist and botanical artist, remarkable for her prolific output of plant and landscape paintings (many of which were painted during her extensive foreign travels), her writings and her plant discoveries.Β  Many of her painting, several reproduced in this volume, are held in a special gallery at the Royal Botanical Gardens in Kew, London.
