First edition, first impression.  xvi, 272pp.  Cloth-covered boards with gilt lettering on the spine.  8vo.  An ex library copy with usual markings on front free endpaper, small stamp on the copyright page and bookplate on the last leaf, else neat, clean, bright and tight throughout.  In its original dust wrapper, bumped at edges and a little creased.  Dust wrapper now in a Brodart-style protective sleeve which has been adhered to the volume.  The sleeve itself is a little shelf worn and marked. In an age when so many politicians seem mediocre, this volume looks back at some giants of African and Asian independence movements.  The European empires of Britain, France and the Netherlands looked permanent and unshakeable in the early 20th century - now only fragments remain.  This volume considers the roles of M A Jinnah, Jawaharlal Nehru, Aung San, Thakin Nu, Ssakarno, Ho Chi Minh, Nkrumah and Kenyatta in that change.
