First edition, first impression.  72pp, with line drawings by the author throughout.  Grey cloth-covered boards with gilt stamped lettering on the spine.  8vo. Cloth a little brushed along lower edge and spine base else neat, clean, bright and tight.  Illustrated dust wrapper a little shelf worn.  Dust wrapper now protected in a clear film sleeve. Later in life, A L Rowse spent much time in California, becoming well acquainted with the American people.  Brown Buck is a loving tribute to the Huntington Library, where he solved the problems of Shakespeare's sonnets - all except for the identity of the Dark Lady, that discovery was awaiting him in the Bodleian Library in Oxford when he returned to the UK.  A story of animals at the Huntington Library, told for children of all ages.
