Second edition, first printing (revised and updated). 256pp, lavishly illustrated in full colour with some 275 images, mostly of Bacon's work. Laminated, illustrated stiff card covers. 4to. Some gentle edge wear to slightly shelf worn covers, with one corner a little rubbed. Internally neat, clean, bright and tight.
Bacon famously drew inspiration from photographs, film stills and a range of multi-media sources. In this revised and updated edition of Harrison's critical examination of his work, how these sources affected some of his most important paintings is explored and revealed, as well as his development as an artist under the influence of master artists such as Poussin and Rodin.
