[viii], 198pp, with central section of black and white plate illustrations.  Blue cloth boards , gilt titles to spine.  8vo.  Cloth very slightly pushed at spine tips and on corners else volume is neat, clean, bright and tight throughout  In its original quite heavily shelf worn dust jacket, bumped on edges and rubbed on corners and spine ends. A n absorbing study of an eventful period in the life of a school. Goddard became headmaster at Aske's School, Hatcham in 1932, when the country was suffering from the privations of the post-depression years .  His headmastership was to continue through the second world war, the following years of reconstruction and into the Cold War. With a wealth of detail recording the successes and failures of Aske's School, Hatcham, it also provides an insight into its evolution in a changing social environment.
