Castletown House in County Kildare was Ireland's largest private residence.  A Palladian mansion, it was once the seat of an alternative power structure to the political power in Dublin; and its design was the inspiration for The White House in Washington.  The four Conolly-Carew children were the last generation to grow up there - their story is a window into Ireland's real Downton Abbey, a world of servants and lavish balls, cars run on charcoal and visiting Royalty.
