First UK/English language edition, first printing (previously published in the original Swedish).ย 232pp, with colour plate frontispiece and two sections of monochrome plate illustrations.ย Blue cloth-covered boards with gilt motif on upper panel and gilt lettering to spine.ย 8vo.ย Cloth is a little tired, brushed and lightly faded on extreme edges, rubbed at spine ends.ย Text block edges spotted and toned, with a smear mark on the fore-edge.ย Internally a little spotting on first and last few pages.ย The volume would appear to have been heavily compressed at some stage resulting in some waviness to pages, forcing the plates to stick at edges - now released but causing some abrasions in margins).
A good, robust and readable copy of this very hard to find biography of Louise Mountbatten, Queen of Sweden until her death in 1965, a great grand-daughter of Queen Victoria and sister of Louis Mountbatten, the First Lord Mountbatten of Burma and Princess Alice - the mother of Prince Philip, the late Duke of Edinburgh. She served in the Red Cross during the first world war.ย A very hard to find title, this copy however, sadly in only fair condition and without a dust wrapper hence pricing.
