vi + 218pp. Red cloth covered boards with gilt titles to spine (a tad faded on spine and rounded at corners). Numerous woodcut engraving by the author, including a two tone title page. Lovely volume. Robert Gibbings descends the Seine, starting at the river's headwaters in Burgundy, "some twenty miles to the north of Dijon." Much in the style of his other river expedition books, Gibbings discusses the history, folklore and wildlife of the river as well as recording encounters and conversations with the natives. An interesting book with many good engravings by the author.
